Diabetes Risk (deCODE T2™)

deCODE T2™ — A new tool in the battle against type 2 diabetes

deCODE T2™ is a state-of-the-art test designed to detect the first, confirmed genetic risk marker for type 2 diabetes. deCODE T2™ looks for a common genetic marker (TCF7L2) validated by independent researchers in clinical studies of tens of thousands of people and multiple ethnic groups around the world. In these studies, people who tested “positive” on the deCODE T2™ test had a two-fold increased risk to develop diabetes.

A prospective NIH-sponsored clinical trial* has shown that taking preventive action — weight loss and/or treatment with metformin or glitazone drugs — can help counteract this increase in genetic risk.

deCODE T2™ can help you decide which patients to treat more aggressively with lifestyle change and/or drug treatment.
